Procedure Guide: RHYMING ANTONYM ANALOGIES
Purpose:
To increase students' vocabulary and recognition of relationships between
words.
Preparation
- On a transparency, chalkboard, or large chart paper, list analogies
that consist of antonyms, with the two parts rhyming.
Example: New
is to old as meek is to __________.
Come is to go as
yes is to __________.
Earth is to sky as laugh is to __________.
Before
- Explain the purpose of the activity.
- Model completing the first analogy, making
sure students understand the instructions.
- Have students complete the remaining analogies and compare their
work with a partner.
During
- As students read for assignments and pleasure, have them compile a
list of antonyms that could be used for creating rhyming analogies.
After

Have students
create their analogies.
- Have a partner read the analogies
and responses with PQP.
