Procedure Guide: ROOT RELATIONSHIPS WEB

Purpose: To increase students' recognition of relationships between root words and their affixes.

Preparation

• Select several roots that are appropriate for making Root Relationships Webs, preferably words from the current text.

Before or After

• Explain the purpose of the activity.
• Distribute word list and model the creation of a Root Relationships. Web using a word like change (for example, exchange, interchange, changeless, unchanging, changeable).

• In pairs, have students complete webs for the other words.
• When completed, make a class web for each root word using the. words identified by pairs.
• If necessary, add more words.
