Procedure Guide: SNAPSHOT-THOUGHTSHOT

Purpose: To help writer and reader to "see" and "feel" what is happening at the moment of the writing.

Before

• Prepare a rubric for the integrated snapshot-thoughtshot writing piece.
• Distribute student snapshots and thoughtshots with suggestions for revision from the teacher.

During

• Have students reread their snapshots and thoughtshots to determine what corrections, additions, and clarifications they will make.

After

• Introduce the strategy for creating an episode by integrating the snapshots and thoughtshots by modeling a first draft.

1. Using the same two colors, write your snapshot and thoughtshot together on a transparency.

2. Share your first draft with the class, and ask if they can “see” and “feel” what is happening.

• Have students write a two-page** integration of their snapshot and thoughtshot.

(First draft) **Teacher may decide on appropriate length.

• Have students share their drafts with a partner for suggestions to clarify their writing.

• Instruct students to revise their snapshots based on partners' suggestions.

• Have students submit their drafts to the teacher for guidance and suggestions for revision.

• Return the drafts to students. Model writing your final draft an a transparency, including:
