Programs

 

    Academic Programs   

Academic and Career Programs

  • Harlan offers Advanced Placement (AP) classes in English and History.

  • Harlan has an Academic Center for 7th and 8th graders. Contact Mrs. Arrignton for more information.

  • Harlan is Illinois' only National Explorer High School.

  • Harlan also participates in the A.V.I.D.(Advancing Via Individual Determination), a national program for selected students.

    at Harlan.

  • Harlan offers honors classes in all core subjects, as well as Spanish and French. Admission to honors courses is dependent on test results and teacher recommendations.

  • Education-To-Career (ETC) programs are offered in Carpentry, Information Technology and Nursing. Forty-seven percent of Harlan’s students participate in ETC programs.

  • JROTC is offered as a self-contained, small school within Harlan.

 


Extracurricular Activities

Students at Harlan participate in a wide array of extracurricular activities including Student Council, National Honor Society, Drama and Dance, Business Professionals of America, Bridge-Building, Know Your Heritage, Alumni Association, JROTC Drill and Rifle Competitions, Fitness, Close Up, and Mayor Daley’s Book Club. Harlan students also actively participate in the Mikva Challenge, a program to encourage student interest and involvement in politics and the CIMBY project which includes a curriculum on biodiversity, wetlands and biological controls.

Boys athletics at Harlan include Basketball, Track, Softball, Baseball and Football.
